STARTMAKINGSENSE

Why this site is structured the way it is

Start Making Sense is designed as a structured environment for post-AI sensemaking: broad enough to engage social reality, practical enough to guide enterprise action, and explicit enough to support both human readers and AI agents.

Why this site exists

AI is not only changing tools. It is changing institutions, work, governance, incentives, trust, and the lived conditions under which people try to make sense of their world. Start Making Sense exists to help people engage that change with more structure, more clarity, and more practical usefulness.

Why structure matters now

In a noisy environment, more content is not enough. What matters is having forms that help us structure our thinking, planning, and action across market forces, strategic principles, best practices, system interoperability, facilitated change, and ongoing performance measurement.

Scenarios

Coming soon

Scenarios are intended to support structured scenario planning for a post-AI world. Over time, this section will organize PESTLE or STEEPLE-classified forces together with evidence of their potential impact, helping distinguish directional trends from meaningful uncertainties.

Hypotheses

Hypotheses hold explicit claims, arguments, and recommendations. They are meant to make reasoning visible enough to test, challenge, improve, and connect to action.

Practices

Practices distill repeatable guidance from a changing environment. They are less about abstract agreement and more about useful patterns that can help people act with greater coherence.

Interoperability Graphs

Graphs model relationships, interdependencies, and interoperability across systems, actors, policies, controls, and concepts. They are not decorative visuals; they are content structures for making system-level understanding more legible.

Workbooks

Workbooks support facilitation, implementation, assessment, and structured enterprise use. Where graphs make relationships visible, workbooks help teams turn that visibility into planning and action.

Why Identity-Aware AI Security comes first

The site begins with Identity-Aware AI Security because it is one place where broad post-AI questions become concretely actionable. As AI becomes a new access and insight layer over enterprise systems and data, identity, authorization, context, and abstraction become central design concerns.

How to use the site

Some visitors will begin with a practical problem. Others will begin with a conceptual question. The site is designed so people can enter through scenarios, hypotheses, practices, graphs, or workbooks depending on what they need, then move across the structures as their understanding deepens.

What inspired the name of this site?

David Byrne and Talking Heads famously challenged us to “Stop Making Sense.” Our sense is that Byrne meant for us not to be so analytical and calculated and compliant all the time, which we find to be a helpful reminder for individuals and for enterprises and for nations (in the right context). But the post-AI era necessitates that we “Start Making Sense” of what it all means for society and how we should navigate our way forward. Thus the strategic principle hypotheses, humbly submitted for consideration and, hopefully, beneficial sense making and choice making.
